Scott’s Toy Box: Traditional Toys
Winter is quickly upon us and the holidays are fast approaching. Each holiday has its own traditions and this year I tried to find toys that you can include in your Christmas traditions. Train sets, advent calendars, and Christmas stories abound in this edition of Scott’s Toy Box.
Brio Christmas Steaming Train Set
One of the many traditions for Christmas is putting a toy train around the tree. Brio World has the prefect train for you. This wooden train set includes 19 track parts, a train engine that is battery powered and has a steaming effect, a few train cars, and a Santa figure. Some of the tracks are special: while one has a crane, others look like hills of snow. If you need more tracks to go around your tree, you can use other train sets from Brio World, since all Brio World trains are compatible.

Exit The Game Advent Calendar
Counting the days down to Christmas is also a fun tradition and Advent calendars are a great way to do it. An advent calendar has 24 doors that you open one each day starting on December 1st. Each door contains a little present to enjoy and with Exit The Game’s Advent Calendar the present is a little puzzle to solve for the day. Solving the puzzle tells you which door you are supposed to open next as the doors don’t have numbers written on them. The game includes a hint book with solutions if you get stuck on a day and a book that is themed to the calendar and puzzles that tells the story of the scenario you find yourself in.

Mickey’s Christmas Carol Game
Another tradition is the stories we tell during Christmas. For some the holiday isn’t complete without watching the Nutcracker Ballet or A Christmas Story on TV and The Christmas Carol is no exception. Funko has released Mickey’s Christmas Carol game where players race against the clock to complete four paintings, each from a different part of Scrooge’s story. As you work toward completing the paintings, Scrooge travels around a clock and you have to complete them all before he reaches the awake spot. Some tiles move Scrooge forward on the clock and completing the paintings out of order also moves him forward the number that is on top of the painting. If you complete the next painting in order, then you move Scrooge back one place on the clock. A perfect gift for Disney and Dickens fans alike.
