Parent Points: Holiday Festivities in Mississippi

Christmas on the Green

Stop by at Ridgeland City Hall for a festive evening of holiday cheer 5:30-8 pm. on December 2. Enjoy special treat snacks, make a holiday craft, play a game, get a photo with Santa, enjoy live Christmas music and watch a movie! The holiday theme is the Polar Express. Everyone is welcome to wear their pajamas! There is no admission charge for this event.

Ridgeland Christmas Parade

We always look forward to the Ridgeland Christmas Parade! This year’s event is Saturday, December 3. Parade begins at 1 pm. and ends at 2:30 pm. at Holmes Community College. Parade route will make a square and include Maple street, Jackson street & Sunnybrook road. This year’s theme is Polar Express! Ridgeland Mayor McGee and City Aldermen will lead bands, businesses and other organizations through the Old Towne neighborhood to celebrate the holiday season.

Victorian Candlelit Christmas

The Annual Victorian Candlelit Christmas event on December 10-11 is a holiday-favorite event that draws hundreds of visitors from across the region to explore the spectacle of thousands of flickering candles, lining the sidewalks of the Historic Neighborhood and the downtown district. A good starting point is 601 Court Street in Hattiesburg. Time slows down as the guests travel through historic streets, lined with luminaries alongside more than 300 homes and businesses decorated for the holidays with garlands, bows, and twinkling lights. There will be horse-drawn carriage rides leaving from the Walthall, food trucks and holiday photo ops available in Walthall Park. Sacred Heart Church will be caroling on the church front steps, Bay Street Presbyterian will host Hattiesburg Community Theater Christmas Concert and caroling on the church steps, Court Street United Methodist Church will host and offer virtual holiday home tours.

Canton Christmas Festival

All through the month of December (12/2-12/31) The City of Lights sparkles again with a towering 4 story LED Christmas tree and 17 ft walkthrough gift box. Travel around the historic square by train, firetruck, or horse drawn carriage. Take the kids for a spin on the Victorian Carousel. Children will delight during story time with Mrs. Claus and her magical cast of characters, and Santa returns for pictures during select dates! Shop, dine, and take in over 100,000 twinkling lights during Canton’s Christmas Festival.

The Music of Christmas

First Presbyterian Church welcomes everyone to join a night of worship on Sunday, December 18th at 4 pm and 6 pm. Together with the full choir and a symphonic orchestra guests will be invited to sing along to some of the all-time favorite Christmas songs and celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. The event is free to the public. Everyone is welcome. 

On December 31, ring in the New Year with DJ Don King and astral fireworks! Attractions available 4 pm – 12 am. See you on Main Street in Columbia, MS!

New Year’s in Tupelo

Tupelo’s New Year’s Eve Party is set to return with a diverse line-up of bands on two different stages in Downtown Tupelo starting at 6 p.m. on December 31. Held in a safe, secure environment, the event has something for all ages to celebrate the start of 2023. KidsFest kicks off the night and the fun continues with live music, fireworks, and a countdown to midnight.
