Scott’s Toy Box: Leisure Sports Anywhere

I’m not a sports kind of guy. I may participate occasionally in a game once in a blue moon, but that’s as far as it goes for me. I’m not one for watching them either, except for an occasional hockey game. My favorite sports to play are leisure sports like mini golf and bowling. So for the toy box this month, I went and found some toys that allow you to enjoy these leisure sports more leisurely.

My Mini Golf

First there is My Mini Golf. My Mini Golf turns any space into a mini golf course. With these hard plastic pieces, you get to decide the obstacles in your way to win. There are 9 different pieces that can be bought individually or as part of a set. The Starter Set has four pieces, 1 bridge, 1 daytona (a curved bridge), and 2 warm-ups (discs that can be used as holes). There is also the Starter-Plus Set that comes with all the pieces in the Starter Set plus a putter, 2 gold balls and a tote bag. The Starter Set costs $50 and the Starter-Plus Set costs $65. Both of these sets can be found on

Bowling Dice

Next we have Bowling Dice. Bowling Dice is a very simple dice game that works just like bowling. You have ten 6-sided dice. Three sides of each die have a bowling pin on them where at least two of the other sides are blank. On the final side of each die is a blank side, a strike symbol (X), or a spare symbol (/). For each frame, you roll twice. If you roll a blank side, you’ve knocked a pin down. If you roll a pin, then the pin is still up. If you get a strike on the first roll or a spare on the second roll on any of the dice, you have knocked all of the pins down. A spare on the first roll or a strike on the second roll count as one pin being knocked over. You score the game just like bowling which is explained well in the instructions. You can get Bowling Dice on for about $10.

Bocce Ball

Finally we have Bocce Ball. Bocce Ball is a fun game played in your backyard or in a park. A bocce ball set comes with eight big balls and one small ball. You can play in teams or just one on one. You throw the small ball out into the area where you are playing, then each player/team tries to throw their ball the closest to the small ball. After all the balls are thrown, whoever is closest to the small ball wins that round and gets a point. You play until someone has the winning score (a score that was agreed to before playing). You can find a bocce ball set on for a variety of prices, the set I like costs $22.
