Wine Goes With Your Dinner, Not Your Pillow
Americans are more likely than other nations to believe that alcohol before bed helps you sleep –an international poll on popular sleep myths declares. They are far more likely to do so than either the British or French, according to the survey of 4,337 American, British and French adults, conducted by pollsters YouGov on behalf of Calm, the sleep and meditation app. 22% of Americans believe that pre-bed alcohol aids sleep, compared to just 10% of French and 17% of British respondents – and 17% of respondents overall. “While alcohol may calm you and speed the onset of sleep, it actually increases the number of times you awaken during the night,” confirms the National Sleep Foundation. “Some sleep myths are fairly harmless, while others are seriously dangerous,” says Alex Tew, co-founder of Calm.
