Book Festival Downtown
The Mississippi Book Festival, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 17th at the State Capitol and Galloway United Methodist Church in Jackson, invites families of readers young and old.
Book fest highlights for kids include the 9:30 a.m. Kidnote address by Dav Pilkey, hot on the heels of his latest Dog Man sequel (there will be giveaways for school-age fans!), plus panels throughout the day on picture books, middle-grade stories, teen tales and YA fantasy.
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, whose memoir has been adapted for books for the young, will be hand with inspiring stories of her journey for parents and children alike.
Our favorite cartoon star Daniel Tiger will be roaming the fest, ready for photos and mingling with young fans, while activity stations by Mississippi Public Broadcasting on the Capitol grounds will engage children to earn and collect stickers for special gifts in the Capitol Rotunda.
“We want as many kids there as adults!” festival director Holly Lange said. “The love of reading starts young and kids of all ages are welcome at the festival.”
