Tis the Season to be… Snowy!

You can’t count on a lot of things these days, but you CAN count on snow in Mississippi this December. Yep, you read that right: snow in Mississippi this December. It’s true, and it’s all thanks to two upcoming events hosted by the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science: S.T.E.M. with Snowflakes 2022 and Snow Much Fun 2022. Each event gives Mississippi children the chance to get up close and personal with snow in all its forms, all while enjoying hands-on activities, photo-ops, and lots more. Being that snow is not too common in the Magnolia State, S.T.E.M. with Snowflakes 2022 and Snow Much Fun 2022 are easily the coolest events of the 2022 winter season, which is why we thought it would be a great idea to contact the Museum Event Planner and Conservation Educator, Nicole Smith, and get the inside scoop on the winter-ful events. 

Parents & Kids: Let’s start with S.T.E.M. with Snowflakes 2022. What is it and what does it include?

Nicole Smith: During the event, children can experiment with instant snow, make their own paper snowflakes, explore the fascinating properties of dry ice, and hear the wonderful story of “Snowflake Bentley,” the naturalist and photographer who first successfully captured snowflakes on film.

P&K: When will S.T.E.M. with Snowflakes 2022 take place? 

NS: December 2, 2022, from 10 a.m. – noon. 

P&K: Is there anything else parents/guardians should know? 

NS: This event is included with museum admission or MMNS Foundation Membership.

P&K: Now, let’s talk about Snow Much Fun 2022. What can attendees expect? What’s it all about?

NS: Give your kids a snow day! Well, a snow NIGHT, actually. Play in scheduled “snowfalls”, take a frosty selfie with Santa in the glamping tent, create winter woodland crafts, conduct winter S.T.E.M. experiments, and more!  This uniquely Mississippi holiday experience will celebrate winter in a way that is fun for the whole family.

P&K: When is Snow Much Fun 2022 taking place?

NS: December 9 and 10, 2022, from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

P&K: For which age group is the event designed?  

NS: Ages three and up.

P&K: Are tickets required and where can they be purchased?

NS: Advance Tickets may be purchased until noon on December 8th and used once for either event date. Check the museum website for event information and ticket purchasing. 

Thanks to these events, you don’t have to dream of a white Christmas; you can actually experience one!
