King Cake is Back!
It’s that time of year again! King cakes are back and will be available beginning on Monday, January 6th, on Epiphany, through Carnival until Fat Tuesday, February 25th.
King cake is said to have originated in Old World France and Spain and came to be associated with Epiphany during the Middle Ages. When it was brought to the New World (along with Catholicism and Christianity), the tradition evolved further. The symbolic baby, baked (or embedded) into the king cake, is important to Mardi Gras celebrations because the person who gets the piece containing the baby must host the next year’s celebration. Most of our favorite local bakeries, as well as the grocery stores, have king cakes available this month. Don’t miss the opportunity to delight in this sparkly sweet goodness.
