Reservoir Botanical Gardens and Nature Trail

Over twenty years ago, Robert O’Gwynn completed his Eagle Scout project by identifying and marking a number of the flora along a Reservoir-area nature trail. It was quite a project. And, while not much is left of that project from so many years ago, due to a redesign of the Trail in 1992, the Boy Scouts are still a big part of the Reservoir Botanical Park Nature Trail that is managed, supervised, and kept beautiful by the Botanical Park Garden Club.

The approximately one-mile trail winds through the park in a loop that takes you on a stroll through a woodland garden of native trees and plants as well as ornamental shrubs and flowers that will charm and delight all ages. The Botanical Park Garden Club, with help from Rankin County, Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, local-area Boy Scouts, and other important volunteers maintain the beds of plants and keeps the trail beautiful and safe all year. There is a great nature study component to the trail as well. Taking your kids at least once during each of the four seasons will allow them to see the yearly development and changes in the natural surroundings. And, the kids will not only experience the changing flora during the year, but they will also be up close to the various birds and other wildlife that populate this area.

The entry into the trail is tucked in the back corner of the parking lot that houses the Reservoir Public Library, the Reservoir Fire Station, and the Community Center. Parking is plentiful, and this lovely, community jewel is just waiting for you and the kids to come discover it!
