Scott’s Toy Box: Time to Go on an Adventure

Since I host weekly D&D games, I decorated my dining room for adventure. There are maps hanging on the wall, a pirate ship on a shelf and little “treasures” on display everywhere. One of my signs says “Adventures Await” and that’s what this Toy Box is all about. You can take an adventure for pirate’s gold, try to take a photo of a mythical creature, or escape a hungry leviathan.

The Goonies Never Say Die

This board game is full of adventures - 9 of them, to be exact. One person plays as the Goondocks Master (GM) and takes the role of running the game. He has a booklet with the adventure that tells him everything about running the adventure. The other people play as members of the Goonies. They will have an objective they need to achieve, while the GM’s job will be keeping them from winning until the timer runs out. Once the game is set up the Goonies and the GM will alternate taking turns until one of them wins. Fans of The Goonies, RPGs, and Boargames will love this.

Finding Nessie

In this game, players go deep-sea diving to look for the Loch Ness Monster. Players move their divers around the lake to find any sign of Nessie they can find. If they spot a real part of Nessie, they get to add that part to their camera gallery. Once you get all six parts of the photo, you win. There are also some alternative rules that give powers to some of the pieces you can find in the lake to add even more fun to your game.

U’katoa

The leviathan U’katoa has been unleashed and is scouring the seas for tasty sailors. Players represent the unfortunate crew that U’katoa has found. After building the boat and placing the sailors, U’katoa takes a set path, eating and destroying everything in their way. The sailors each belong to one faction. Each is denoted by a different color and each player has two factions to play for. Players use cards to move the sailors around or attack with U’katoa. Once all but two-color sailors have been destroyed, the player with both of those colors wins. It’s adventures on the high seas.
