Water Fun in the Sun

Water Fun in the Sun

As parents, the search to fill summer days with meaningful activities and fun begins now.  Here is a list of water-themed possibilities right here in South Mississippi that your family is sure to enjoy.

Splash of Fun Water Park at Flint Creek

As of press time on this issue of the magazine, the park is slated to reopen by Memorial Day. This water park nestled in Wiggins offers water-related activities including swimming, boating, jet skiing and fishing, as well as camping. With this and the waterslides on-site, there’s sure to be plenty of things the whole family can enjoy. To stay up to date on the activities at Flint Creek — and to verify that it’s open and operating prior to your family heading out — you can follow on Facebook or call (601)798-3051.

Kroc MS Gulf Coast in Biloxi

The pool is equipped with slides, splash pads and other water play structures. There’s a two-story high water slide for children 48 inches and taller to enjoy. The first visit for non-members is free and each visit after is $8. Later in the season, the cost will increase to $10 per person. Review the available times at or call (228)207-1218.

Gulf Island Water Park in Gulfport

Owning the only water roller coaster on the Gulf Coast is only one claim to fame for this location. Enjoy the Riptide Racer, Horn Island Blaster, Camille Cutter and Cat Island Catapult for the 42-inch and taller part of your crew — or the Lil’ Pelican’s Bay and Ship Island Wreck for the littles. Cabanas and other spaces are available for rent. For an additional fee, Adventure Park (located next door) offers ziplining and an obstacle and ropes course. For more information, visit or call (228)328-1266.

Blossman YMCA in Ocean Springs

For fitness options and pool fun in one location, consider the YMCA in Ocean Springs or Biloxi. Non-members are allowed three guest passes per year. The first one is free and the second or third can be a day pass for $8 or one week pass for $20. As a plus, children ages 12 and older can enjoy the pool while parents or guardians enjoy other amenities in the facility. For more information, call (228)875-5050 or visit

Overnight Water-themed Getaways

If you’re interested in overnight stay locations with water fun included, the coast offers two options.

Margaritaville in Biloxi

For overnight guests, Margaritaville has a water park featuring two large slides, a lazy river, lounge pool and even a splash pad for the littles. With a swim-up bar and an onsite restaurant, your family can enjoy hours of fun on the rooftop, usually late into the evening hours. For more information visit or call (228)271-6377.

Oasis Resort Gulfport in Gulfport

This resort — featured in Forbes magazine — is at the site of the former Veterans Administration Medical Center. It boasts two hotels and a three-acre water playground that includes a splash pad, two water slides, a lazy river and an outdoor pool located within view of the beach. With a full service restaurant on-site, your family will have little reason to leave once you check in. For more information, visit or call (228)206-7880.

Wherever you summer takes you, stay safe. Wear sunscreen and hydrate well, but above all, enjoy the time making memories with the longer days and mild weather nights.
