Birthday Party NOT Cancelled!

Birthday party under global quarantine? Why not! Here are a few ideas that might help make it memorable and fun while in isolation.

Coordinate a Drive-by Parade

Friends and family can drive by, holding signs and balloons. Decorate those cars with streamers and make it count. It’s a good idea to coordinate a time and a place as a starting point for your caravan, so that all the “guests” will arrive at the same time. It will make for a better effect.

Zoom Party

Whether it’s Zoom, Skype or another app, technology makes virtual get-togethers the next best thing if you can’t gather with friends and family in person. Pick a theme, such as Luau or Disney, and put some thought into dressing up. Get your snacks and drinks ready. Decorate that cake. Set up a time for others to join your party online. You can either decorate your room to go with the theme or just pick one of those fun backdrops most apps offer. You can be magically transported to an exotic island or Cinderella’s castle. This is the time to simplify things where we can. Celebrate with a quick video chat, a Happy Birthday song and by blowing out those candles. Short and sweet.

Family Birthday

When was the last time you celebrated your child’s birthday as a family? Bounce house, bowling, and roller-skating parties are a ton of fun, but are also expensive and a bit stressful. This year you can have a quiet home celebration and not feel guilty about not doing enough. It can be a family game night, a movie night, a make-your-own-pizza-night. Maybe it will be a tea party on the porch with all the dolls and stuffed animals. Or a campout in the backyard with a fire and s’mores. When was the last time you made your own cake and had the kids help? We’re always too busy, aren’t we? Not this time. Slow down. Enjoy creating precious moments with your children.

This year’s birthday will be different, but it will be memorable for sure. And memories are what we’re going for anyway, right? Be as creative as you want! This is a judgement-free zone. We’ve never done birthdays under quarantine, so it’s not like there’s a right way to do it. Just relax and have fun.
