Free Art of the Audition Virtual Workshops Offered by New Stage Theatre
New Stage Theatre, Mississippi’s professional theatre located in Jackson, Mississippi, announces a new virtual workshop for ages 15 and up. The Art of Audition Free Introductory Workshop offers participants an opportunity to check out how an acting class via Zoom works and will present tips on how to nail the next audition. Being a good actor and having a good audition technique are two different things. The audition workshop is specifically designed to introduce the technique directors are looking for in the casting process. This introductory workshop will touch on cold reading, text analysis, and how to prepare for a variety of auditions. Participates should come prepared with a 60 second memorized monologue for the workshop. All skill levels encouraged.

Here at New Stage, we have discovered that virtual theatre classes really succeed and offer the prospect for concentrated individual engagement,” said Artistic Director Francine Thomas Reynolds. “The Art of Auditioning FREE introductory workshop offers participants an opportunity to check out how an acting class via zoom works. I also will be offering tips on how to nail the next audition. Although New Stage can’t offer acting classes in person until the second half of 2021, I am eager to start the one-on-one work with class participants now.”
Education Director Sharon Miles said, “As a professional artist, I can attest that natural talent can only take you so far. If you want to grow in any artistic craft, you have to put in the work! I have grown leaps and bounds under Francine’s direction. I have worked with her for 10 years and my growth as a theatre artist surprises even me! She has helped me trust my instincts, explore vulnerability and truly analyze text in order to bring characters to life. No one can do the work for you, but the right teacher/director can pull something out of you that you never knew you were capable of! “
