Let it Glow: The Christmas Candlelight Tour

Let it Glow: The Christmas Candlelight Tour

Tis the season…for one of the state’s best old-fashioned Yule-tide celebrations, the Christmas Candlelight Tour at Landrum’s Homestead and Village! Held on select weekends throughout the month of December, the Christmas Candlelight Tour is a day full of seasonal festivities, which run the gamut from photos with Santa Claus and Christmas carols to wagon rides and gem mining. The perfect way to kick off the holiday season, it’s a magical celebration that’s sure to enchant kids and kids at heart – and you don’t want to miss it!

Location, Location, Location

The perfect place for an old-fashioned Christmas celebration, Landrum’s Homestead and Village in Laurel is a replica of a settlement from the late-1800s. Spread out over 30 acres, it’s made up of more than 85 buildings and exhibits, offering visitors a unique peek into the past. Since opening, Landrum’s Homestead and Village has grown into a must-visit destination for people of all ages from across the U.S. It’s open year-round, but it draws some of its largest crowds in December, when it’s transformed into a winter wonderland for its annual Christmas Candlelight Tour, which is touted as “South Mississippi’s favorite old-fashioned Christmas celebration.”

Merry and Bright

During the Christmas Candlelight Tour, Landrum’s Homestead and Village is completely decked out. Thousands of twinkling lights and candlelit pathways set the stage for an unforgettable Christmas celebration that’s brimming with equal parts whimsy and old-fashioned charm – something that hasn’t been lost on visitors. “It’s absolutely timeless,” said David S., who attended the Christmas Candlelight Tour in 2020. He continued, “A beautiful place to visit, especially during the holiday season.”

Ho! Ho! Holiday Fun for Everyone!

The merry décor is just half the fun though. Attendees can “step back in time and enjoy an old-fashioned gathering,” thanks, in part, to a slew of Yule-tide activities, including photos with Santa, touring the village, Christmas music, wagon rides through beautifully-landscaped nature trails, gem mining, and marshmallow roasting around a bonfire. Visitors can also chow down on great food. The on-site restaurant, the Smokehouse, will be open and serving burgers, hot dogs, fries, BBQ, and more, while seasonal sweets, such as hot chocolate and funnel cakes, will be available at the concession stand.

A Tree-Mendous Tradition

With so much to offer, it’s not surprising that the Christmas Candlelight Tour has become a holiday must-visit for many, like Lisa G. and her family. When rating the annual event, she said, “Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful! We have made Landrum’s Homestead and Village part of our family’s Christmas tradition…from roasting marshmallows on the huge fire pit and visiting Santa Claus to touring all the buildings and attractions of days gone by. I could go on and on! We had a wonderful time this past Christmas, as we did the past years! Treat yourself and go see the attractions!”

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Mark your calendar for the most wonderful time of the year! The 2021 Christmas Candlelight Tour is scheduled for December 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, and 18. Each day, the gates stay open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., with the Christmas lights coming on at 4:30 p.m. Admission is $10 per person, ages 4 and up. Children 3 and under are FREE. Remember, the $10-admissioin doesn’t cover the cost of food from the Smokehouse or concession stand. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the event.

Between the magical setting and traditional festivities, it’s easy to see why the Christmas Candlelight Tour at Landrum’s Homestead and Village is a top-rated event and a beloved annual tradition for so many families. Pay a visit this year, and it may just become one of your clan’s favorite traditions. Or, at the very least, result in some lifelong memories and lots of festive photo-ops.
