Parent Points: Buckle Up, Mississippi!

Parent Points: Buckle Up, Mississippi!

In September, Safe Kids MS celebrates National Child Passenger Safety Month. Throughout the month of September, they promote and host events that educate caregivers on how to keep their children safe while on the road. This includes car seat safety, heatstroke prevention, and educating caregivers on the proper usage of car seats. Caregivers are urged to not leave the children in a hot car. #checkforbaby can be used as a reminder to check the backseat before leaving the vehicle.

On September 24, Safe Kids MS will be hosting “Seat Check Saturday” at The Jackson Free Clinic located at 925 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. The purpose of “Seat Check Saturday” is to provide caregivers with education and resources on how to safely secure a car seat at every stage of a child’s development. Teaching caregivers the correct usage of a child safety seat can reduce the risk of death due to a fatal car crash by 71 percent. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be providing education, car seat checks and installations for all parents and caregivers.

Please be sure to bring your own car seat to the seat check events. Car seats will not be provided and it is the caregivers’ responsibility to bring their own.

For those who cannot attend the events, you can access the Ultimate Car Seat Guide and more online resources on the Safe Kids Worldwide website or visit https://www.umc.edu.
