Mississippi Schools Reopening Plans
Mississippi Public School Districts and certain private and charter schools are continuing to release their reopening plans for the 2020/2021 school year, beginning early August. What school districts are choosing to do looks different for each district, but all the guidelines have been created in compliance with the CDC regulations and the state government laws.
Most plans include several changes, such as encouraging masks on school buses, having at-home temperature checks before coming to school and social-distancing as much as possible.
Some districts plan to use a mix of virtual and in-person learning. Certain school districts will offer a hybrid model schedule with A and B days, alternating in-person attendance and online learning.
Most districts are also offering at-home learning options for those who choose to do so. Students who are in high-risk groups and cannot attend school per doctors’ orders as well as those whose parents request a distance learning model will have virtual learning opportunities. A distance learning option will be provided for any student with medical/health issues or other concerns preventing him or her from attending traditional school during the COVID-19 pandemic.
All plans are subject to change pending orders of the Governor and guidelines of the Department of Health.
