Fondren Renaissance Foundation expands Meals for Heroes
Due to the overwhelming support we received for Meals for Heroes for the UMMC ER staff, we have now expanded the program to include other medical facilities in Fondren.
Last week, more than 60 individuals and entities donated more than $10,000 to provide meals to UMMC ER staffers who were responding to the pandemic. We have now scheduled 3 meals per week for them through May 15. This expanded program will offer meals to St. Dominic’s, and other medical facilities which express a need.
The following Fondren restaurants are preparing meals at cost: The Pig and Pint, Barrelhouse, Broad Street Bakery, The Hungry Goat, Saltine, Corner Market, Basil and Walker’s Drive In. (Other Fondren restaurants can participate by contacting FRF.)
The cost for one meal for 50 people is $600. You can donate any amount or pay for one entire meal.
The FRF Coronavirus Task Force will be responsible for preparing a schedule for meal delivery to the various facilities. You will be able to track their work through this newsletter. (See side bar to the right, which will be updated weekly as funds are contributed)
They also need volunteers to pick up and deliver the meals. If you are available to be considered for meal delivery, let them know. A mid-size vehicle is needed, at a minimum. Delivery times will vary and they will match volunteers to the tasks at hand.
