COVID-19 Stories: Jackson Hinds Library System

How has COVID-19 affected your business or organization? And what are you currently doing differently because of it?
During our systemwide closure through March 27, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jackson Hinds Library System continues to offer online options for our library card holders to access e-books, e-audios and digital magazines on computers and mobile devices. However, many in our service area may not have a library card, and we are now offering a new option for everyone to enjoy whether or not they are a registered user. We now have additional services through TumbleBooks, which do not require a login, so a library card and PIN are not needed to utilize these services. Downloads are also not necessary since all options are accessed via the cloud. Options include:
Tumble Book Library – Grades K-6 Story Books • Read Alongs • E-books • Graphic Novels • Nonfiction • Videos • Language Learning • Playlists • Puzzles & Games
TumbleMath – Grades K-6 Picture Books on Arithmetic, Measurements, Fractions, Finance, Time and Temperature, etc. • Quizzes • Playlists
Teen Book Cloud – Grades 7-12 Fiction • Nonfiction • Drama and Poetry • Enhanced E-books • Graphic Novels • Videos • AP English • E-audios
Audio Book Cloud – All Ages Classics • Children • Young Adult (YA) • Spanish Audio Books • Romance • Mystery and Suspense • Westerns • Science Fiction • Historical Fiction

What would you like us to share with our audience about your organization?
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, JHLS had already been offering digital services such as e-books, e-audios and digital magazines. More at jhlibrary.org/services. In addition to this, we had already been offering free online resources such as distance learning, driver education and resume creation. Read more at jhlibrary.org/resources. Finally, prior to the pandemic, all library branches sanitized hard surfaces after each day of operation as standard procedure. We will continue to do so when our libraries reopen to keep our patrons safe.
