A High-Flyin’, Good Time
By Daniella DiRienzo
Summertime is all about making memories. If you want to make some that are sure to last, you’ve got to plan a visit to Old Mountain Outdoor Adventures. A family-friendly adventure park, it’s located in Winona, which is about an hour-and-a-half outside of DeSoto County, but with a variety of treetop obstacle courses, zip lines, and other activities, it is worth the trek. But you don’t have to take our word for it. Christy Shannon, who recently visited the park with her daughters (10, 14, and 17), exclaimed, “We drove 1 hour and 45 minutes to get there and it was WELL worth our drive.” And since the park offers something for adventurers of all ages, it’s a great day-trip destination for the entire clan.
Walk on the Wild Side
As “one of Mississippi’s most exhilarating and unique outdoor adventure parks,” Old Mountain Outdoor Adventures (OMOA) is the perfect place to explore your wild side. The one-of-a-kind park features aerial obstacle courses and zip lines. But that’s not all. The in-the-air fun also includes a netted treetop trampoline, which is often the setting for an impromptu game of dodge ball, as well as one of the nation’s only netted treetop obstacle courses. The impressive assortment of aerial activities hasn’t gone unnoticed. In fact, it’s one of the things visitors, like Jason Gaspard, comment on. When talking about his experience at OMOA, he said, “ This is a quality outdoor adventure. I was extremely impressed by the various zip lines and obstacles.”
Age is Just a Number
At OMOA there is something for every adventurer, from ages 2 – 80. It’s true. Younger visitors, beginners, and those who just feel more comfortable closer to the ground will enjoy the beginner near-ground courses, which, as the name implies, are perfect for beginners and children. Even better, staff members are on-site to help you every step of the way. Past visitor Steven Hugley raved, “They were willing to help customize our experience to fit our needs and had a great attitude from beginning to end. Whether you are visiting with family or bringing a group, this is a great place to go!”
If you’d prefer to keep your feet on the ground, that’s okay; OMOA offers plenty of fun activities that don’t involve zipping through the treetops. One option is Treasure Quest. The perfect group activity, it involves navigating your way through the park by answering questions. A treasure awaits those who complete the quest, only adding to the excitement. For those who prefer something a bit slower paced, there’s an easy-to-navigate hiking trail, which comes to an end at Old Mountain Scenic Overlook, where you’ll find stunning panoramic views of downtown Winona, especially at sunset.
A travel-worthy destination, OMOA delivers in a big way when it comes to thrilling adventures and unforgettable fun. So the next time you and your brood are craving some outdoor fun, remember this small-town gem!
