Easter Fun for Every Bunny

Easter Fun for Every Bunny
By Daniella DiRienzo

Easter is just around the corner, which means Peter Cottontail is getting ready to hop down that famous bunny trail. And while there may not be an actual bunny trail here in DeSoto County, there are plenty of Easter-themed activities and events to help you celebrate. The can’t-miss festivities include everything from traditional Easter egg hunts to citywide celebrations. With so much going on, your only problem will be fitting it all in.

Olive Branch

Celebrate in Olive Branch by attending Old Towne Easter. The annual event includes photos with the Easter Bunny, games, inflatables, prizes, musical entertainment, and more. It all takes place on April 20 at the Olive Branch City Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call 662-893-0888.

Southaven

In Southaven, the holiday festivities kick-off on April 19 at 3 p.m. with the Southaven Public Library Easter Egg Hunt. Children are invited to search for eggs in Saucier Park, visit with the Easter Bunny, and make a craft or two. This event is completely free, so you’ll just need to bring the family, something to put your eggs in, and a camera if you want to get some pictures of the kids with the Easter Bunny. For more information, call 662-343-0102.

On April 20th, head to Snowden Grove Park from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the Annual Southaven Easter Egg Hunt. Kids will have a blast scouring the park to find more than 50,000 candy-filled eggs that have been hidden. But that’s not all. There are also moon bounces, face painting, a petting zoo, and train rides. Kids will also have a chance to meet the Easter Bunny and explore a few fire trucks. Keep in mind, you’ll need to bring your own Easter basket. For more information, call 662-393-6939.

Horn Lake

Held for the first time in 2011, the Horn Lake Easter Egg Hunt has quickly become one of the city’s top events. And with more than 30,000 eggs, it’s the largest. This year, the fun is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on April 6 and will take place at Latimer Lakes Park. The best part is – everything is free! Attendees are advised to bring Easter baskets and chairs. For more information, call 662-342-3468.

Nesbit

Looking for something that’s equally enjoyable for kids and adults? Then the Bonne Terre Easter Brunch is for you. In addition to typical holiday fun, like an Easter egg hunt and photos with the Easter Bunny, there will be fabulous food, a kids cakewalk, and $5 Bloody Mary cocktails and Mimosas. Scheduled for April 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., reservations are required and can be made by calling 662-781-5100.

Hernando

The holiday fun kicks off in Hernando with the Easter Egg Chopper Drop. Scheduled for April 13, it’s put on by Colonial Hills Church. According to Joey Rolen, the Kids and Family Pastor, this year’s event will bring a few changes. Usually the church hosts two egg drops, but this year, there will only be one – and it will be held at the church’s Hernando location (1225 Monteith Ave). “Another change is we will be dropping the eggs from a hot air balloon. We should have over 15,000 eggs for the event. It should start at 10 a.m. and will be done by 11:15 a.m.,” Rolen added. For more information, call 662-863-0601.

Cedar Hill Farm is a great visit year-round, but it’s even better during the holidays – and Easter is no exception. This year, the festivities are scheduled for April 13th – 20th and include numerous Easter egg hunts each day, photo-ops with the Easter Bunny, and some good ole farm fun, like pony rides and a petting zoo. Prefer something a bit more tame? No problem! During April 13th – 14th and 19th – 20th, the farm hosts breakfasts, brunches, dinners, and suppers with a special guest of honor – the Easter Bunny himself! For more information, call 662-429-2540.
