P&K How To: How to Select a Pest Control Service

Termites and fire ants and wasps, oh my! Controlling pests like these, along with mosquitos and spiders and the like, is a constant challenge for families, especially during the summer months. Some types of pest control may be handled without professional help. But sometimes the health of the family or the well-being of the home’s structure requires the services of a professional company. Here are some tips to finding the best fit for your needs.

Ask Around

As always, asking trusted neighbors and friends for recommendations is a great first step. Ask about cost, service, communication and responsiveness, and overall effectiveness of the services. Some companies simply won’t fit the family’s budget, and that’s that. But hooking up with a sub-par outfit just to save a few bucks also isn’t worth it. Real life testimonies from “real life” people are super valuable.

Get Several Quotes

Going through the interview process with multiple companies can be a pain. Big time. But often these contracts run for at least a year at a time, and getting hooked up with the wrong company will be a lot more annoying than spending an extra couple of hours on the front end.

Check Local and National

National companies tend to be more expensive, but they have some benefits that local companies may not have. Local companies may not have all those benefits, but they can save money. Plus, keeping it local is always good for the community. So, get quotes from both, and trust those instincts. The right person or company won’t necessarily have the best salesperson but will leave the best feeling of service.

Protection from pests is an ongoing battle – get out in front of it this year! And here’s hoping (fingers crossed!) that the cold winter killed off some mosquitos. Those things really bite.
