Saturday Morning Fun in Jackson
Pick a Place
This time for Pick a Place, brought to you by Patty Peck Honda, we decided to take a 2018 Odyssey and spend a few hours around town. Sometimes you want to do something out of the ordinary, but have limited time. To get some ideas of how you can have fun around Jackson, without spending hours in the car, we followed the Dent family around on a Saturday morning. See where we went for some Saturday morning fun. Our destinations? A museum (for some edu-tainment) and a unique retail center that’s fun and family friendly!
Most people visualize the outdoors when they think about the Ag Museum. But there’s also a large Heritage Center with several hours’ worth of exhibits. It’s very affordable and there is so much there that you know you’ll want to visit it over and over, so you don’t have to force feed your kids every single exhibit. If you have a model train lover in the family, don’t miss the amazing model train exhibit. Several model trains move through replicas of Mississippi landscapes and towns, giving you a unique perspective on our state.
After about an hour at the Ag Museum, the Dent family headed over to Banner Hall. Banner Hall is a wonderful pocket of fun, hidden in plain sight, right on the I55 Frontage Road at Northside Drive. Lemuria Books is perhaps our state’s premier independently owned book shop. They are on the top level of Banner Hall. On the bottom level is Broad Street Baking Company. Combined, the two make a great Saturday late morning destination. There is usually a story hour at 11:00 am at Lemuria. Then, Broad Street Bakery can provide anything from a sweet snack to a full lunch.
