Setting: Halloween night, everyone’s favorite pumpkin patch
Characters: Lil’ Pumpkin, Lil’ Ghost, Lil’ Witch, and Farmer David
It’s Halloween night, and all of the pumpkins in the pumpkin patch have found homes except for one little pumpkin. Passing through the patch, a little ghost overhears the little pumpkin talking to himself in a sad voice.
Lil’ Pumpkin: I can’t believe that I’ll be spending Halloween all alone. I wonder why none of the children chose me.
As Lil’ pumpkin finished his thought, he was startled by a sneeze. He looked all around frantically for the source of the sneeze, and before his eyes a small ghost materialized.
Lil’ Pumpkin: (Speaking to the ghost) Oh, goodness! You scared me. I thought I was alone. Who are you, and what are you doing here?
Lil’ Ghost: I’m just a lil’ ghost passing through this patch in search of the most magical Halloween. Do you know where I can find it?
Lil’ Pumpkin: Well, I suppose anywhere but here. Seeing how I’m the only pumpkin left in this patch, I doubt anything magical will happen. No children chose me. I’m here all alone on the greatest day of the year! I don’t even know what the most magical Halloween is!
Lil’ Ghost: Well, It’s hard to explain. It’s like the magic of Christmas. Does that help?
Lil’ Pumpkin: Not really. Pumpkin seasonusually ends with pie toward the end of November.
Then, to fill the awkward silence, at the exact same time, Lil’ Pumpkin and Lil’ Ghost looked toward the full moon, and spotted a small figure flying on a broom.
Lil’ Ghost: Maybe that little witch can help me find the most magical Halloween.
Lil’ Ghost flies up through the clouds to meet the little witch.
Lil’ Ghost: Good evening! I’m Lil’ Ghost, and I was just talking to Lil’ Pumpkin down in that patch about the most magical Halloween, and I was wondering if you might know where I could find it.
Lil’ Witch: What? There is a pumpkin down in the patch on Halloween?
Lil’ Ghost: Sure, he’s a tiny, little guy. Too small to carve.
Lil’ Witch: Oh, that’s tragic. Sorry, I didn’t introduce myself. I’m Lil’ Witch, and I was just on my way to Halloween Town to help with a small problem over there. You see, every Halloween I do mybest to lend a helping hand wherever I can, but maybe I don’t need to fly that far away to help. Lil’ Ghost, we have got to help that Lil’ Pumpkin get out of his patch for Halloween.
Lil’ Ghost: Ok . . . I guess. Maybe there will still be time for me to find the most magical Halloween after we help Lil’ Pumpkin.
Lil’ Witch: Great! Here is the plan—I’ll fly down there and use my broom to bang on the fence, and you fly around the wind chimes hanging on the back porch. This will get the farmer’s attention, and he will come see what is causing the noise. When he does this, he will see that there is one pumpkin left!
Lil’ Ghost: I like that idea. No pumpkin should spend Halloween in a patch!
Lil’ Witch and Lil’ Ghost fly back down to the patch to execute their plan. The plan works, and Farmer David cautiously walks down to the patch. As his flashlight roams around the dark, a small ball of orange becomes illuminated.
Farmer David: Oh, my! What’s this? How in the world did I end up with one lonely pumpkin in my patch? What luck! I need a special pumpkin to welcome the children to my porch as they trick-or-treat.
As Farmer David collects Lil’ Pumpkin, Lil’ Witch and Lil’ Ghost watch with satisfaction.
Lil’ Ghost: Oh, goodness! I think I’ve found the most magical Halloween.
