Scott’s Toy Box: Teamwork
The most useful thing that I learned while working on support staff at summer camp was how to participate in teamwork. We all had personal duties but when a need arose, we would come together to help. Since this month is our sports issue, I thought I’d focus on team games in the Toy Box.
The first game in the Toy Box is Mario Sports Superstars. In this game for the Nintendo 3DS, you can play many sports along with your favorite Mario characters. There are many sports here that the Mario characters have tackled before like soccer, baseball, tennis, and golf, but new to the Mario brand is horse racing. This mode not only lets you race around the track as your favorite all-star jumping over obstacles, but also has a stable where you keep your horses, take care of them, and make them happy. Each sport contains a tutorial on how to play which can be replayed in case you need a refresher later. The game is also compatible with amiibos and amiibo cards. You can play against the computer or against your friends. The game costs $30 on Amazon.
Next in the Toy Box is Skylanders Imaginators. In the most recent Skylanders game, you can create your own Skylander using creation crystals. The type of element that your Skylander harnesses depends on the creation crystal you use, but you get to choose your Skylander’s class when you first use the crystal. The class of your Skylander is a permanent choice, but other options like body parts, catch phrase, powers, etc can be changed whenever you want. In fact, as you play through the game you unlock more options for your Skylander. Skylanders Imaginators also introduces 20 new characters called Senseis who can teach your Imaginators of the same class moves. All your previous Skylanders also work with this game and you don’t even need a new portal if you already have one. There is even a Skylanders app where you can create your Skylander just like you can in the game and even order a 3D printed, fully playable toy or a 2D Imaginator card. The starter pack costs about $50 on Amazon and is available for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, WiiU, and Switch. The cost of the Skylanders varies.
