Delta Date Night: A Valentine’s to Remember
I realize you might have burst out laughing when you read the title of this article. For many busy couples, date nights when you have little ones at home can be few and far between. This year, though, with a little early planning, it can be easier to take advantage of the many great places we have around the Delta!
Listed below are a few ideas for a Delta date night that fall within most everyone’s price range.
The Viking Cooking School is located in downtown Greenwood. The entertaining classes and great menus always have guests coming back for more. Classes are usually three hours in length and offer hands-on experiences for the chef in all of us. They also offer demonstration class for those of you who’d prefer not to damage that new mani you just got for your date!
Last year’s Valentine’s Day menu was Lobster and Blue Cheese Beignets, Prime Rib with a Mushroom Au Jus, Roasted Cauliflower with Whipped Feta, Fresh Green Beans with Caramelized Onion Vinaigrette, and Chocolate Decadence with Peanut Butter Mascarpone Filling. Check their website, Vikingcookingschool.com, for full menus, and sign up for a class with your sweetheart before they book up. You won’t regret it!
The Alluvian Hotel is another place for that much needed romantic getaway. Guests can enjoy a meal at the in-house restaurant, Giardina’s. Private booths are the perfect setting for a candlelit dinner for two. There’s also a bar with a fun courtyard filled with twinkling lights (and heaters, on cold winter nights).
My favorite night out with my husband is to order some food from the bar at Giardina’s, grab a few drinks, and head out to the courtyard. When you have little ones, you know how rare it is to have a conversation with your spouse without little ones talking over you!
In Cleveland, Cole Ellis is always cooking up something great at the Delta Meat Market. This is the perfect option for couples looking for an in-home romantic meal! They have hand-cut meats and seafood to choose from, as well as a market where you can purchase all the sides to go along with your meal. Their seasoning selection is to die for! Delta Meat Market offers meats and seafood you can’t find fresh anywhere else.
One of my favorite restaurants in the Delta is Nola in Indianola. The hubby and I go for birthday celebrations and date nights to this downtown Indianola establishment. Swing by the B.B. King Blues Museum just down the road before dinner.
After the museum, enjoy the Shrimp St. Charles, Grilled Shrimp, Cajun Sausage, Bacon, and Cremini Mushrooms over Cheese Grits topped with Longbeach Cream Sauce. A few of my other favorite dishes there are the Tuna Tartare for an appetizer, Iron Skillet Flounder topped with meuniere sauce, and the Court Avenue Chicken topped with artichoke hearts, caramelized onions, mushrooms, provolone cheese, and herb beurre blanc sauce. They also have delicious salads, steaks, and desserts. My mouth is already watering for a return trip soon!
No matter if this is your first Valentine’s Day with kids or you’re a pro at sneaking a bite of your child’s Valentine’s candy, make sure that you and your sweetheart have a few precious moments to recharge and reconnect. A little effort in this front goes a long way.
