Scott’s Toy Box: Expand Your Toys
More is better. At least that’s what the commercial with the guy and the cute kindergarteners tells us. So this month in the Toy Box, I thought I’d bring you toys that either have expansion packs or add-ons. These toys are great because after your initial purchase of the main toy, the expansion packs and add-ons bring new life to toys and games that may have lost their glow and might just be decorating a shelf. A bonus is that the extra parts are usually cheaper than the main toy, which might save you a few bucks from buying something completely new and different.
The first toy with add-ons is MagModz. MagModz are small cars that have magnets inside of them, allowing you to create your own custom car. There are three types of cars. Each car comes in yellow, red, or black, so you can pick your favorite. The cars come split in two with a limo piece that can be added to extend the car. The best thing is that all the pieces will attract to one another and the hold of the magnets is pretty strong, making it feel like the car is in one piece. They also come with a tin to store all the parts in. The cars cost $10 on MagModz.com and the limo piece costs $5. Look out on the P&K Facebook page for your chance to win a car and some extra pieces that you can’t even purchase on the MagModz website.
Monster High: Create-A-Monster Doll
The second toy with add-ons is Monster High: Create-A-Monster Doll. The Monster High Dolls are dolls of the sons and daughters of famous monsters like Dracula and the Werewolf. With the Create-A-Monster doll packs you get to play Dr. Frankenstein. The starter pack comes with many mix and match parts. There is only one torso but there are two heads, four legs, and four arms, plus hair and clothes. The add-on packs give you more heads, arms, clothing and hair which give you so many options. The starter packs cost $20-30 on Amazon.com where the add-on packs cost around $11.
Boss Monster: Tools of Hero-Kind
The final toy is an expansion pack called Boss Monster: Tools of Hero-Kind. You may remember my write up on the card game Boss Monster in February’s issue. If not, the basics of the game are that you play the Boss Monster and you build a dungeon to defeat a certain amount of heroes before your opponents. This expansion pack adds items to the game. The items are given to the heroes before they come into your dungeon. They add a level of difficulty, as the heroes become more of a challenge with new abilities. However, if your dungeon defeats a hero with an item you receive, that item gives you a special ability that you can use to help your game. My roommate and I have played with and without the expansion and we both agree that with the expansion, our strategies changed and the game became better. You can pick up the expansion pack on Amazon.com for about $10.
