Scott’s Toy Box: Halloween Treats

Scott’s Toy Box: Halloween Treats

My favorite part of Halloween is dressing up in costumes and pretending to be someone else. It’s fun to let go of what worries you and take on a new persona. To get into the spirit, I found some great treats that will fit nicely in your plastic pumpkin.

First, we have Skylanders Giants from Activision. Last year’s hit game Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure is getting a sequel of epic proportions. Once again, the Skylanders’ world is in trouble, and it’s up to you, the portal master, to help them save it. Just like in the first game, you place your Skylanders on the portal and then play with them on your TV screen. In this game there are more Skylanders to play with, like Giants and LightCore Skylanders. There are also new Skylanders and a second wave of old favorites. What’s best about the game is that your portal and Skylanders from the first game also work in this one. It’s available for the PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, and Nintendo 3DS. A starter pack will retail for about $75, or if you already own the portal, it will run you $60. The figures will cost between $10-$15. But wait! You can also win a starter pack from Parents & Kids MagazineFind details here.

Next, we have Eyelights from B. Eyelights are little flashlights in the shape of a cat. When you press a button, the eyes light up, cyclingthrough white, blue, green, and red lights in both steady and flashing modes. These are perfect for Halloween and can be a useful accessory for a witch or spinster costume. There are three cats to choose from: orange and yellow, black and green, and white and orange-red. There is also a wheel on the bottom of the cat, and when you roll it across a table the eyes flash. Eyelights cost about $15, and you can find out where to buy them by visiting justb-byou.com/toys.

Last, we have the game Costume Quest, where you play as a twin whose sibling gets kidnapped by candy-stealing goblins on Halloween. Your job is to thwart their evil plans by fighting them in turn-style battle, much like Pokémon. When you run into a goblin, you will transform into what your costume is and then take turns trying to knock each other’s health bar to zero. Through the game you meet friends and get new costumes to use in your battles. The game retails for roughly $15 and can be found for the PC at store.steampowered.com, at the Xbox marketplace, and on the Playstation Network.
