Scott’s Toy Box: Magical Friendship… With Vehicles
It’s been a while since I’ve dedicated my column to the girls who read it. Just the fact that I’m a guy tends to steer me towards toys that interest boys, even though I try to feature toys that everyone can enjoy. So, this month’s Toy Box is focused on toys for girls.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
It’s funny how toys from your childhood seem to disappear and then resurface again, much like Hasbro’s My Little Pony from the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The show was developed by Lauren Faust, who has worked with her husband on shows like The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. Both are great shows, and My Little Pony definitely follows in those footsteps.
The toys are pretty awesome as well. The two sets I got to look at both include a pony with its own vehicle. Twilight Sparkle comes with her friend Spike and a twinkling hot air balloon that plays the My Little Pony music. It can also be switched to night-light mode for bedtime. Pinkie Pie comes with a remote-control car large enough for two ponies and can pull around other vehicles. These toys are just two of many in the My Little Pony line. The list price for each set is$20.
Because ponies shouldn’t have all the fun, Street Surfing has come out with a vehicle for girls. The Whiplash Pink is a scooter with a rear caster wheel and a flexible board, which allows for self-propulsion. The scooter also folds up easily and is lightweight. Street Surfing also carries similar vehicles for boys. Visit streetsurfing.com for more information. The Whiplash retails for $70 and can be found on Amazon.com. We have one in the Parents & Kids office that we will be giving away some time in August. Details to come on our Facebook page!
