Scott’s Toy Box: Oooooo Baby Baby
I’m at the point in my life where all my friends are either getting married or having babies. Although I’m pretty good at giving a couple something that not only celebrates their love for one another but also is something no one else would give them, I haven’t really ever had the chance to go look for something fun to give an expecting mother. So this month, I put on my binoculars and went searching for some awesome gifts you could take to your next baby shower.
The Twilight Turtle and the Sleep Sheep
The Twilight Turtle and the Sleep Sheep from Cloud B both have the baby’s sleep in mind. The Twilight Turtle turns your ceiling into the night’s sky by shining constellations on it. The Sleep Sheep plays a variety of soothing sounds that help the baby stay asleep: mother’s heartbeat, spring showers, ocean waves, and whale songs. Both of these toys can be found at Learning Express. The Twilight Turtle costs around $37, and the Sleep Sheep costs around $25.
The Mozart Magic Cube by Munchkin
The Mozart Magic Cube by Munchkin plays eight of Mozart’s compositions using five different musical instruments. Each of the sides of the cube controls a different instrument, and the sixth side plays all the instruments and switches between songs. While the song is playing, the sides of the cube lights up in time with the music; pressing the side of the cube turns the music off and on. The Mozart Magic Cube sells for around $35 at ThinkGeek.com.
Lastly, we have the Wheely Bug, a scooter for your baby. The child sits on top and holds on to the bar while using his feet to scoot all around the floor. The small Wheely Bug is for children 1.5 years and up, so if you give it as a shower gift, it can be used as baby room decoration until Baby is old enough to use it. There is also a larger Wheely Bug for ages 3 years and up (I just wish there was one for people in their 20s.). Several different animal Wheely Bugs are available, from a lady bug to a cow. You can find this toy at Target.com for $60.
