Scott’s Toy Box: All The World’s A Stage

One of my favorite ways to be creative is to play pretend and make believe. Putting myself in the shoes of my characters and trying to figure out how they would naturally react to a situation is really helpful when I get stuck. It also helps me think outside the box or look at the world from a different viewpoint. I believe there are many benefits to playing pretend so I went and found some toys that will help you grow in your creativity.

Props in a Box

First, we have Props in a Box. Props in a Box is a box with a set of 15 felt props & movie maker tools inside. Each box comes with two sets of props for two different characters that you can play separately or mix them together. For instance the box I got to play with contained props for a fisherman and an astronaut that you can blend and become a space angler. Not only are there props but the box also comes with a backdrop and a phone app that you can use to create your own movie. There are several different boxes that you can mix and match to have all kinds of adventures. You can buy one at for $60.

Shadow Puppet Theater Set

Next, we have Shadow Puppet Theater Set from Kikkerland. The Shadow Puppet Theater Set includes 1 puppet theater and 15 mix & match shadow puppet pieces. The puppet theater has a tough sturdy cardboard and a screen that is partially see through. Each of the shadow puppet pieces are also made up of the see-through cardboard and your creation of characters is held up by Velcro. Use a lamp to cast the shadows on the screen and you can tell any story you can imagine. You can buy the Shadow Puppet Theater set at for $18.

Lastly, we have the toys from Underground-Toys. Underground-Toys is a company that has several lines of toys from your favorite Movie and TV shows. One of their most recent lines is the Star Wars The Force Awakens Talking Plushes. These cute stuffed characters from Star Wars can be either 15” or 9”. There are even some mini clip-ons that are 4”. You can get new characters like Kylo Ren or BB-8 or classic characters like Yoda or Chewbacca. Pricesvary depending on the size of the plush or, like collectables, how easily you can find them. You can find them online by going to or searching “underground toys star wars” on Amazon.
