Scott’s Toy Box: Welcome to Jurassic World

Way back when I was ten, a little movie called Jurassic Park came out. I asked my mom if she would take me to see it, to which she replied that she thought it would be too scary for me. I assured her that the director of the movie, Stephen Spielberg, also made a children’s TV show called Tiny Toons Adventures and that he would never make a scary movie. I had no clue that he also directed a movie that made me fear a shark would break through the bottom of my grandmother’s pool. As my mother and I watched it, I used the theatre seat in front of me as a shield when the film got too intense, and I loved every minute of it. Now 22 years later Jurassic World is opening it’s gates and I still love it just as much. As a kid, one of my favorite things about Jurassic Park was the toys that came out and I’m happy to say that Jurassic World’s toys are just as awesome today.

Lego Jurassic World Video Game

Simply put there isn’t a bad Lego video game and the Lego Jurassic World Video Game proves that point in many ways. The game encompasses all four films. After running through the prologue of the original movie, you get to choose if you want to continue playing through Jurassic Park and its two sequels or time jump the 22 years and play through the Jurassic World storyline. There are about 5 levels for each filmand even some bonus levels that put you in the dinosaurs’ shoes as they chase down people running away. Not only can you play as dinosaurs but you can also go in the lab and customize how they look like giving a raptor the head of a triceratops for instance. Where people in the actual movies get unfortunately eaten, all Legos people survive, even the lawyer who sit gets taken off a toilet by a T-Rex gets regurgitated at the end of the story.

There are a few scares that had me jumping and screaming. There are wild dinosaurs everywhere after all! The game is full of unlockable features to provide hours of entertainment. I powered through the stories over the course of a day and when I was done with the story I was only 21% complete with the game. The game can be bought wherever video games are sold and on Amazon costs between $60-$30 depending on what system you buy it for.

Lego Jurassic World Sets

If playing with virtual Lego dinosaurs aren’t enough you can also get Lego Jurassic World Sets. There are currently 6 different sets for the Jurassic World line, featuring vehicles, buildings or containment units. Every set comes with a different dinosaur. There are 8 dinosuars in all, 4 of them being raptors, with the newest dinosaur Indominus Rex in the biggest set. You can find them at Target and Walmart and they’ll cost anywhere between $130-$20 depending on the set you buy.

Hasbro Hero Mashers

If you just want to create your own dinosaur Hasbro Hero Mashers are for you. Hasbro Hero Mashers are action figures with removable parts so that you can create any kind of action figure you want. Their Jurassic World line gives us many different dinosaurs to play with. Each figure comes with a base dinosaur and extra parts to mash them up with. What is even better about these figures is that they are also compatible with the Hero Mashers I wrote about in June 2014. So you can take Captain America’s body and give him a Raptor’s head or put Wolverine’s arms on a T-Rex to give him some awesome mutant reach. There are several sets that can be found on Amazon with a price range from $30-$11.
