Scott’s Toy Box: Pick Mii

I am a stubborn man. When I decide that I’m going to buy something, I start figuring out a way to get it. I look to see how much “fun money” is in my budget, see how much I can pull from saving, and gather up my unused gift cards to see if I have any to a store that might sell it, all while trying to find the best deal I can get on it. None of this ends until I make my purchase. Currently, the product in question is the Nintendo WiiU. I’ve wanted one ever since the last E3 Convention, where they paraded their upcoming games. Some of those games are already on shelves while others have yet to be released. Now this might be a “shopping while hungry” article and who knows, maybe I’ll purchase my WiiU in between paragraphs but for this month’s column, I thought I’d share with you some of the best things Nintendo has released.

Super Smash Bros for WiiU

First we have Super Smash Bros for WiiU. Super Smash Bros is a fighting game that is way more family friendly than other fighting games out there. The roster is made up of many Nintendo characters and this game has more fighters to choose from than any of the previous Smash Bros games. New fighters include Sonic, Pac-man, and Mega Man. You can now even bring your Mii into the game to fight. The fighting is fast and chaotic. Now, for the first time, up to 8 players can get in on the action to add even more chaos to the screen. Items appear throughout the battles, which can be a large help to victory. The game costs $54 for the WiiU and there is also a $39 version for the Nintendo 3DS. You can find is on Amazon or anywhere video games are sold.

Mario Party 10

Next we have Mario Party 10. Mario Party is like a virtual board game. The object of the game is to move around the board to collect coins and buy stars. The one with the most amount of stars wins. If there is a tie with the stars, the win is determined by coins. To collect coins, the players compete in a variety of mini games that are all fun, sometimes even split up into teams. You can also win or lose coins depending on the space you land on. Mario Party 10 offers a new way to play, raising the max number of players to 5. The 5th player plays as Bowser with the Wii U Gamepad controller. Bowser has the joy of wreaking havoc on the other 4 players. The game comes out on March 20 and you can preorder it on Amazon for $50.

Last we have the amiibos. Amiibos are small figures of your favorite Nintendo characters. Inside the base of each amiibo is a microchip. When you place that amiibo on the corner of the large WiiU controller, the amiibo and all the information stored on it will be imported into your WiiU. These amiibos will add to compatible games in fun and different ways. For Super Smash Bros, you can save your playing information and gain experience for each fight to level your character up to level 50. For Mario Party 10, your amiibo will act as your game piece to move around the board, allow you to customize your section of the board, and even save coins to your amiibo to use later. Not all games are compatible for amiibos and not all amiibos work for games that are compatible. Before you buy one, check the compatibility chart on the amiibo website, It’s also a good place to see whatcharacters are out on shelves as well. amiibos cost about $13 and can be found on as well as most stores that sell video games.
