Scott’s Toy Box: Super Toys

The first weekend in May marks the beginning of summer movie season. Since 2007, Superhero movies have dominated our summers. Superheroes have always been in my life- from the animated Superman and Batman series of the 1990’s to the comics I buy every Wednesday. I love superheroes. So this month, I thought I’d go find some superhero toys for you to have some superhuman fun.

Funko Pops

For those of you who already have a favorite superhero, I found some great figures from Funko. Funko creates plushes, vinyl figures, and even bobbleheads of popular characters. They have lines for both DC Comics and Marvel superheroes but you can also find a line of Disney characters, because they are just as super. My favorites are the vinyl pop figures. They are just under 4 inches tall with large heads, small bodies, two round black eyes and no mouth. Check out Funko.com for more of their products or head over to Barnes and Noble as they have a large selection of them around the store. The products range in price but can be found for about $10 on Amazon.com.

Make Your Own Superhero Kit

For the more creative types, I found the Make Your Own Superhero Kit. This kit comes with three superhero bodies and five superhero heads with different masks and hairstyles so you can make the superhero you want. The bodies and all the accessories are blank so you can paint them whatever color you want. You can even make him look like you. Currently, the kits that Thinkgeek.com sales only have male superheroes, however, they are on the lookout for female kits as well. The kit costs about $40 at Thinkgeek.com.

Power Capes

Finally if you enjoy playing pretend, you can get your own superhero costume from PowerCapes.com. PowerCapes.com sells everything you need to be your own superhero- shirts, capes, masks, and even blaster cuffs. The cape and shirt can be customized to include an emblem of your initial in the colors of your choosing. They also have already made pieces that can be ordered and shipped out on the same day. The shirts and capes start at $25 each but a complete outfit, including masks and blaster cuffs, starts at $50.
