Scott’s Toy Box: Summer Fun

When I was young, I was a bit of a homebody (still am a little). When summer came around, you would usually find me sitting in front of the TV. One outdoor activity I did enjoy was swimming, which happened when I visited my grandparents. So this summer in “Scott’s Toy Box,” I want to highlight toys that your children can take outside and have fun with.

The Air Strike Z-X Crossbow

The Air Strike Z-X Crossbow by Zing is a crossbow that fires darts. The darts are a little hard, but they are made of foam. The darts hook into two rubber bands and are pulled back to be hooked on the trigger, which won’t fire until you pull the safety trigger. I had my co-workers shoot the darts at me so I could see how hard they hit. I don’t recommend it. Trust me: Heed the warning on the crossbow that says don’t aim or shoot at people or animals. The crossbow is really fun to shoot at doors and walls, though, and Zing also makes an array of other weapons like a bow and a slingshot to add variety if you are buying for siblings. You can find the crossbow on Amazon.com for $21.

The Cyber Fire Football Set

The Cyber Fire Football Set is a wonderful toy. It’s a gray football and comes with two pairs of glasses. On the glasses you flip a switch, and two lights come on (either red or green). The cool part is when you look directly at the football, it glows the color that your glasses are shining, which means the ball shines brighter with it’s in your line of sight. And it’s perfect for night-time play because the ball is easy to find. You can buy it at Learning Express for only $20.

Pinypon figures

Pinypon figures are great for those days when it’s better to stay inside than go out in the heat. Pinypons are mini-dolls that you can collect and customize. They even have a caravan that your children can use to let their Pinypons have their own summer vacation. The figures come with surf boards and over 30 accessories. Be warned: The accessories are small, and the toys are suggested for ages 4 and up. There are also many other sets to purchase like a hotel set and a shopping center. You can get the Pinypon caravan on Amazon.com for $33.
