Magical Lights of Canton

Magical Lights of Canton

Did you hear? Did you know? This month the city of Canton, MS became a magical land of twinkling lights, gingerbread cookies, hot cocoa, and holiday cheer.

For many families in Central Mississippi, Canton City of Lights became a favorite tradition that starts the advent season. It just wouldn’t be the same without Canton Christmas Village with its 200,000 twinkling lights, cheerful holiday music, and sweet treats! Though the locals love the tradition of doing the same thing every year and expect to see Santa and Mrs. Claus and have a cup of apple cider, Canton always has a few surprises for the guests. This year is no exception. “This year’s new attraction is our interactive Christmas Village,” Canton Tourism executive director Jana Dear said. Children make reindeer food for Santa’s helpers to eat on Christmas eve, Frosty is near his igloo handing out marshmallows to roast by the fire, and Santa’s elves teach the children how to create their own picture frames and become certified elves!

Make lasting memories with your family as you enjoy Sip ’n’ Cider, Mrs. Claus’ Story Time, Horse and Buggy rides around the square, a charming vintage-inspired carousel, and Trolley rides. And don’t forget the photos with Santa of course!

Christmas Shopping

Beat the lines and avoid the rush hour of last-minute Christmas shopping at the mall. Instead, enjoy a slow-paced walk through colorful holiday displays along the decorated lighted streets of Canton. Throughout the month, several merchants around the Square will have extended holiday hours and will offer a great variety of gifts to consider for your loved ones. Shoppers will enjoy the holiday atmosphere as they pop into gift shops, vintage stores, and boutiques for unique items, special sales, and free samples.

Parade of the Stars

If you can, come out on Friday or Saturday night! At 6:30 and 8 p.m. visitors will experience a special light show and enjoy a character parade. You just might run into Elza or Spiderman!

What’s New?

The city’s animation museums, which were completely redecorated for the 2018 holiday season, will be open from 5-9 p.m. The historical museum features replicas of past merchants on Canton’s Historic Square. The other museum has special themed Christmas trees and animation penguin figures. Can you count them all? Be sure to check out the newest ride – the Sky Race – located on the Courthouse Square grounds.
